The Nigeria international has just over six months remaining on his current contract at St Mary’s and he is widely expected to leave the south coast club this winter.

Aribo was a regular during Southampton’s dismal 2024-25 Premier League season, however he was dropped by Will Still following his arrival this summer and he was excluded from the matchday squad in each of the Saints’ first 12 Championship matches of the campaign.

He made a four-minute cameo against Preston North End in Still’s final game in charge on 1 November and he has featured in six of their seven league fixtures under new boss Tonda Eckert.

However, Aribo is still yet to start a Championship match this season and Nigerian publication PUNCH Sports Extra have revealed that Southampton will accept a sale in January if they receive a bid worth around €1.7 million.

Several Turkish Super Lig clubs are reportedly ready to pursue the 29-year-old when the winter transfer window opens, while a return to Rangers has also been mooted as an option for the midfielder.

Aribo made 149 appearances across a three-year spell at Ibrox before his move to Southampton and he famously scored during their defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 Europa League final.

Joe Aribo to rejoin Rangers?

Livingston assistant Marvin Bartley believes that Rangers could look to re-sign Aribo amid their bid to bolster the first-team squad available to new boss Danny Rohl.

He told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (via The Daily Record): “I think that is one that could happen. When a player enjoys somewhere, and obviously he had to leave because it was a really good offer that he got down the road, and he has not played as much football as he wanted to play.

“He is still a really, really good footballer and did well for Rangers. I wouldn’t be massively shocked if he came back in January.”
