Celtic receive official striker message as 'advanced discussions' confirmed
The president of CFR Cluj has confirmed that he is in “advanced discussions” over the January sale of Celtic transfer target Louis Munteanu.
The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a Cluj exit over the summer, however he was ultimately priced out of a move due to his club’s €20 million valuation.
As a result, Munteanu was forced to remain with the Romanian giants for the first half of the 2025-26 campaign and the club have now confirmed they will sanction a sale in January if they receive an offer worth as little as €6m.
It’s understood that Celtic saw an opening offer for the Romania striker turned down this summer, but they have been tipped to rekindle their interest in his signature next month following confirmation that a mid-season transfer could be on the cards.
Cluj president Iuliu Muresan has revealed that he is in talks over a January sale, although Celtic aren’t currently one of the clubs negotiating a transfer.
Celtic receive Louis Munteanu transfer message
“We are in advanced discussions to sell two more players and we will solve the financial problems. Louis Munteanu is one of them,” Muresan told DigiSport.
“If it happens, and there are very high chances, the financial situation will change. The amount is satisfactory and realistic compared to what CFR is now and what Louis Munteanu is now.”
When asked about Celtic’s interest in the striker, Muresan added: “Nothing has reached the club. The club hasn't been contacted by either the manager or anyone on their behalf. It's hard to believe that it wouldn't have reached me.”
Munteanu has scored three goals and provided six assists in 21 appearances so far this season, and he is one of several strikers on Celtic’s transfer wishlist, alongside Evan Ferguson and Wessam Abou Ali.
