Celtic are reportedly among the clubs to have been offered the chance to sign Evan Ferguson during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Republic of Ireland striker is currently on loan at AS Roma from Brighton & Hove Albion, but reports suggest that his spell in Serie A could be cut short amid his underwhelming form so far this season.

Ferguson has only scored one goal in 14 games since his arrival at Roma in late July and the Italian giants are already eager to send him back to Brighton in order to free up space for Manchester United centre forward Joshua Zirkzee.

With the 21-year-old set to return to Brighton next month, his services have now been offered to Celtic, Everton and Leicester City, as per TEAMtalk.

Celtic and Everton were both linked with a move for Ferguson this summer, before his eventual loan deal to Roma was announced, and they have been tipped to rekindle their interest in his signature in January.

Everton remain in the market for a new centre forward amid the struggles of Thierno Barry and Beto so far this season, while Celtic have also identified the striker position as an area of concern ahead of the winter window.

Ferguson has been earmarked as a possible target, with the Scottish giants eager to back new boss Wilfried Nancy in the transfer market.

Columbus Crew star Wessam Abou Ali has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic Park in recent weeks, although he has been absent since September with an ankle injury and a swoop for Ferguson may therefore be an easier deal to complete.

The Irishman has scored just four goals in his last 69 club games, across time at Brighton, West Ham United and Roma, but Celtic could bank on helping him rediscover the form that led to Chelsea engaging in talks over a €115 million deal back in both 2023 and 2024.

Evan Ferguson to leave Roma in January?

Rumours in the Italian press state that Roma have already decided to end Ferguson’s loan spell in January, although head coach Gian Piero Gasperini stopped short of confirming these reports during his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s Europa League clash versus Celtic on Thursday.

“I have nothing against him personally, it’s about the performances. Ferguson had a lot of chances,” Gasperini told reporters (via the Irish Independent).

“We want to wait for him. He's a young player so you can expect better performances than what he's produced so far. [Mario] Hermoso is an example of that, I had no relationship with him beforehand, like with Ferguson, but Hermoso's qualities have helped him become a pillar of this team, not just on a technical level but also in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“I hope it can be the same for Ferguson. He's very young and he was sidelined for a year. What we haven't been able to get out of him so far, maybe we'll be able to get out of him in the future.”
