Celtic land unexpected transfer windfall as Napoli launch €30m bid

Celtic stand in line to receive an unexpected transfer windfall, with the Glasgow giants set to benefit from a massive bid launched by Serie A champions Napoli.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are closing in on the signing of Nordsjaelland winger Benjamin Nygren, and this deal could be part-funded from a surprising source.
According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, Napoli have launched a €30 million bid for former Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Although the Hoops sold the Denmark international star to the Premier League club 12 months ago for €29.5 million, they still possess a sell-on fee for the player that is believed to be worth in the region of 10-15% of any profit the Seagulls gain from the player.
With O’Riley having spent much of last term injured following a serious injury, Brighton are said to be open to the possibility of a deal, though only if it meets their valuation. At present, it is unclear what this is.
A bidding war, which would only be to Celtic’s benefit, is possible in his case. The 24-year-old is wanted by “multiple” Serie A and Premier League teams, with Atalanta and Roma other possibilities in Italy.

Celtic land sell-on clause jackpot
A transfer around the €35m mark could land Celtic a welcome boost to their finances of around €500,000-750,000 as Brendan Rodgers’ double winners build for the season ahead.
With a deal for Nygren in the pipeline, the Glasgow giants are also said to be tracking Hayato Inamura of Albirex Niigata, who is rated as the J-League’s top centre-back.
Celtic have already benefited immensely from one major sell-on clause this summer.
Jeremie Frimpong’s €40m switch to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen saw nearly €10m land in the bank account of the Parkhead side as they possessed a clause entitling them to 30% of the Bundesliga side’s profit from the deal.
