Barcelona signing announced in deal that will delight Hansi Flick

Barcelona are set to secure the future of defender Eric Garcia, who is ready to reject a move to Champions League winners PSG to remain at Camp Nou.

Out of contract at the end of the season, doubt had been building over the future of the 24-year-old centre-back, who PSG head coach Luis Enrique is known to particularly appreciate.

But Eric is ready to commit his long-term future to Barca, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that he has an agreement in principle with his Catalan employers and is ready to sign a new deal in a move that will delight head coach Hansi Flick.

The former Manchester City man is seen as a fundamental part of the Barcelona project and even a “future captain” of the club.

Garcia will remain with the Blaugrana as he feels “very comfortable” in the locker room surrounded by a group of players he feels are like a family to him. He is ready to sign until 2030 with Flick’s side.

The German coach has played a major role in his rebirth at Barca following a potential exit following a loan spell at Girona. Flick is said to have personally intervened to persuade Garcia to remain at the club.

Barcelona’s coaching staff love Eric Garcia’s versatility, which is one of the attributes that had also caught the attention of PSG coach Luis Enrique, who knows the player from his time as Spain boss.

“You could put him up front and he’d perform just as well,” Mundo Deportivo points out, noting that the centre-back has thrived on the right side of defence as a holding player in the centre of the pitch and even as a left-sided midfielder.

On top of the game understanding that Flick believes can allow him to play across the field, his professionalism is said to be second to none and is increasingly a dressing room leader at the club.
