Barcelona have made Chelsea winger Pedro Neto their “central focus” in the transfer market, according to a report from Spain.

The winger has been a standout for the Blues this season and grabbed their opening goal as they overcame Burnley 2-0 in a Premier League clash at Turf Moor on Saturday.

With four goals and two assists for Enzo Maresca’s side so far this season in the top-flight, he has already matched his scoring tally from last season and is well on his way to better the half dozen assists he managed for the Stamford Bridge side last term.

None of this has gone unnoticed at Barcelona, with sporting director Deco of the opinion that Neto’s versatility, tactical awareness and dribbling could be a major boost to the attack of the Camp Nou club.

Barca want to add “immediate solutions” to their first-team roster, and the 25-year-old Neto is seen as one of those, Fichajes reports.

Can Barcelona afford Pedro Neto?

Financially, this will be a difficult deal for Barcelona to force through. The Portugal international was signed by Chelsea for €60 million last summer and still has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €62.7m.

With the Blues actively in the market for more attacking midfielders, it would be particularly surprising if they were sacrifice one of the options who is playing well in that role at the moment.

Maresca’s side might consider a sale, but it would have to come for a fee well above market value, allowing them to re-invest in the same area, potentially for a net profit.

On top of this, Barcelona have a cheaper, functioning option in their ranks in the form of Marcus Rashford. The Blaugrana have a €30m buy-out clause in the fee of the Manchester United star, putting him at around half the price of the Stamford Bridge ace.

Given the financial problems that the Catalans are currently facing, tying down Rashford would appear to be the priority, with little money unlikely to be left for a luxury signing of another winger.

Of course, Rashford could be signed instead as Robert Lewandowski’s replacement in the No.9 role, with Neto taking his place out wide, but for the type of money that Chelsea are likely to demand, it still seems a long shot.
