The drama in Paris rarely stops and the Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid rumours are picking up steam again.

Not that long ago, it seemed as though Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain had fully made up and were slowly but surely closing in on a contract extension for the French megastar.

After his brief summer exile, Mbappe was reinstated and things calmed down. But the calm is already over. While Mbappe, on a personal level, is still the same old Mbappe - despite being without a proper pre-season - the same can't be said for PSG.

The shift in transfer policy away from the big stars of the Lionel Messi and Neymar type and the appointment of Luis Enrique are yet to bear fruit, to put it mildly. Languishing in fifth in Ligue 1, PSG were demolished by Newcastle United in the Champions League in midweek.

Not even the darling Mbappe was spared from scathing criticism in the wake of this ignoble defeat, with some claiming the 24-year-old parties too much. PSG's poor start to the season is giving rise to fresh rumours that Mbappe will depart.

Mbappe 'pushed' to Madrid

The Frenchman still hasn't signed his contract extension, meaning that, as things stand, he will be free to choose his next club in January, with Madrid the most obvious destination.

Indeed, Madrid-based AS claims that the poor form under Luis Enrique is 'pushing' Mbappe to Real. Los Blancos, however, are not as desperate to sign Mbappe as they were last year. Quite to the contrary.

"A place where there is a new project and where happiness reigns is at the [Santiago] Bernabéu. There, a new Galactico shines and resentment for Kylian has given way to indifference," writes the Spanish outlet.

"[Jude] Bellingham is now the name on everyone's lips. The Mbappé soap opera will be restarted in 2024, when his multimillion-dollar contract in Paris ends. If the season continues along the same lines for Luis Enrique's team, unable to satisfy Kylian's sporting ambitions, the drums of his arrival in [Madrid] will sound loudly again."

"But if this time he finally makes the move, he will have to fight not to conquer but to share the heart of Real Madrid."
