Neymar made his return from injury for PSG in a friendly against Jeonbuk Motors and sent the Ligue 1 champions a very definite message as he scored twice and set up the other for Marco Asensio in a 3-0 victory.

The Brazil international had not featured under Luis Enrique at PSG due to ankle surgery that had kept him away from the field since the middle of February.

His opening goal was the forward at his best. Taking the ball in a tight space at the edge of the box, he embarked on a dribble that ended up with him squeezing a shot off the from 18 yards out.

The Neymar show continued as he bagged his second goal with a composed finish after running clear on goal. A couple of minutes later, the Brazil star was again at his free flowing best, with a stunning backheel to set up Asensio for a shot that flew into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Neymar ready to take over from Mbappe

With Kylian Mbappe forcing his way out of PSG – whether it’s this summer or next – Neymar’s performance could not have been better timed for the French side.

Just a year ago, there were doubts over his commitment to the club, who were actively seeking to offload him. He might even have gone to Chelsea.

Now the message from the attacker’s camp this summer has been very clear: he wants to remain at PSG and believes he can fulfil his potential to become the best player in the world.

With Mbappe’s transfer saga dominating the agenda at PSG in recent weeks, Neymar’s brilliant return to form has come as a welcome boost.
