Kylian Mbappe’s deadlock with PSG continues to dominate football transfer news, with the Real Madrid target’s future still very much undecided.

Mbappe and PSG find themselves at loggerheads over the player’s decision not to take up an optional year in his current contract, which expires next June.

As it stands, he will become a free agent at that point and the Ligue 1 champions believe that he has already agreed a contract that will take him to Real Madrid at that point.

PSG have, therefore, put him on the transfer list. Concrete interest has come from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal but Mbappe has ignored a €300 million world record bid that would make him the best-paid player in the world.

Liverpool and Chelsea have more recently been linked with a potential loan move, which is something that could be explored as the transfer window progresses, assuming that Real Madrid are not in a position to complete a permanent deal immediately.

Mbappe’s subtle Benzema hint

Mbappe, who has been left out of PSG’s tour of Japan and South Korea, has been tight lipped over the subject of a move, not breaking his silence on where his future lies for the 2023/24 season.

He has, however, dropped a subtle hint as to what his plans are via his Instagram account.

Taking a break in Monaco, Mbappe dropped several images of his activities, with an emoji image of the flag of the principality and a love heart. More cryptically, though, there is a picture of three cards, each of which is a No.9.

Given that is the number that has been vacated by Karim Benzema at Real Madrid, Mbappe appears to be winking that his plan is to take up that jersey at the Bernabeu.

He presently wears the No.7 shirt for PSG, although the club’s squad numbers for the 2023/24 season have not been made official yet.
