Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced the signing of Portugal international Vitinha after triggering his €40 million release clause.

The midfielder arrives from Porto on a five-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2027. The 22-year-old becomes the second PSG signing of the summer after agreeing a permanent deal with Sporting CP for Nuno Mendes, who spent last season on loan at the Parc des Princes.

Vitinha does, however, become the first signing of the Luis Campos era at PSG after he was appointed sporting advisor earlier this month.

The Parisians have been linked with moves for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, Lille midfielder Renato Sanches and Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca as Campos prepares for the arrival of the incoming Mauricio Pochettino replacement, Christophe Galtier.

Vitinha to PSG

Vitinha, a product of the FC Porto academy, came through the ranks at the Portuguese giants before making first-team debut in a Portuguese Cup quarter-final against Varzim SC in 2020.

He joined Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan for the 2020/21 campaign later that year. The playmaker was unable to force his way into the starting XI on a regular basis for the Molineux-based club, and returned to Porto after mustering just five league starts and no goal contributions.

Upon returning to Porto last summer, Vitinha made 47 appearances in all competitions for the club during the 2021/22 campaign, helping the Dragões to a domestic league and cup double.

He featured in all six of Porto's Champions League group stages games as they crashed out of the competition, although he only started the 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder earned his first senior Portugal cap in March this year, after impressing manager Fernando Santos for his club side Porto. Vitinha ended the 2021/22 season with two goals and four assists in the Portuguese top flight, while he contributed a further three goals and assists in the domestic cup.
