Football fans all had the same reaction after the draw for the group stage of this season's Champions League saw some big names set for intriguing homecomings.

Ering Haaland will also have a chance to play at his old stomping ground after Manchester City were drawn with Dortmund in Group G.

With plenty more players returning to familiar territory, such as Angel Di Maria's Juventus coming up against former sides Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica in Group H, fans could not hide their excitement at the narratives.

'UEFA and being rigged? Name a more iconic duo'

While the emotions were real for some fans, others couldn't help but question the likelihood of two of football's biggest stars returning to former clubs just months after making their transfers.

The word 'rigged' was trending on Twitter following the draw, leading on fan to tweet "Lewandowski goes back to Munich. Haaland goes back to Dortmund. Good to see UEFA doing their very best to beat the “rigged” allegations…"

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller was also quick to respond to the prospect of reuniting with his former teammate, sending a message on Instagram to 'Lewangoalski'.

Others were also hinting towards Barcelona eventually drawing PSG in the knockout rounds as part of UEFA's master plan to provide the most carnage in the tournament.

Premier League fans also did not waste any opportunity to get one over on their rivals, with many people mocking the absence of Manchester United and Arsenal from the draw.

However, some Arsenal fans predicted the last laugh due to Tottenham being drawn against Marseille, a club which has three former Gunners in Matteo Guendouzi, Alexis Sanchez and loanee Nuno Tavares.

Ultimately the draw provided entertainment for fans and there will be much anticipation towards the group stages with the narratives created...by random chance, of course.
