Barca out of Nico race

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that his club are no longer in the chase for Nico Williams.

The Blaugrana had tried to sign Williams last summer but were unable to financially complete a deal.

They had been expected to challenge Arsenal and Chelsea again for the winger this summer, also.

But Laporta says that Barcelona are no longer interested in Williams.

"Nico Williams was one of the candidates last season, but we decided on Dani Olmo," Laporta told TV3.

"And other options are currently being considered."

This spells good news for Arsenal and Chelsea, who now have one less challenger for the attacker.

Arsenal worried about Nico injuries

Football London report that Arsenal are a little bit concerned by the number of injuries that Williams continues to get.

Williams has had nine seperate injuries in the last two seasons, missing a large chunk of matches.

While Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are big fans of Williams, they may think twice about investing heavily in a player who is not always available.

Riccardo Calafiori was bought for great expense last summer but has had five different injuries that has plagued his first season.

Williams has missed the last five games due to a groin injury but is set to return imminently.

Williams in London house hunt

In a move that will perhaps indicate where his mind lies, Nico Williams has reportedly started looking for a house in London as he prepares for the summer ahead.

Williams has all but confirmed he will leave Bilbao this summer due to the €60 million release clause in his contract, which teams such as Arsenal and Chelsea are willing to activate.

And reports in Spain claim that Williams is already looking for a home in London, with the Premier League said to be his most likely destination.

No criticism if he leaves

Athletic legend Julen Guerrero will not blame Nico if he departs the club in the summer, despite being a one-club man himself.

He told Marca: “It's his decision. He’s just as respectable whether he wants to stay or not.

“A lot of people say: 'Hey, I would always stay'. I would love to see them if they had to make that decision and see what they would make by leaving.

“He's happy and the team loves him a lot, so a lot depends on him. And for me, I hope he stays at Athletic Club forever. But anyway, whatever decision he makes must be respected.”
