Liverpool close in on Kerkez deal

Liverpool are making strong progress towards signing Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, with “positive talks” held over a deal, according to Nicolo Schira.

It is reported that Kerkez’s agent, Fali Ramadani, has held discussions with the Anfield club in recent days and these have moved forward in an encouraging manner.

Liverpool have a contract that runs until 2030 ready for the 21-year-old but have yet to reach an agreement over a transfer fee with Bournemouth.

The Cherries are holding out for a fee of €45-50 million for Kerkez, who has been linked with several Premier League clubs and also Real Madrid. Liverpool appear to be strong favourites to lock down the deal, though.

Frimpong to become Slot’s first summer signing

Jeremie Frimpong will be Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, with the Bayer Leverkusen full-back having undergone his Anfield medical on Sunday, according to Paul Joyce.

Everything is in place to secure a transfer worth €35 million for the Netherlands international, who will be a like-for-like replacement for the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Deutschland reports the deal will be announced on Monday.

Taking to X, he said: "Once again confirmed: Frimpong was a desired signing for the right flank by Arne Slot. Quality, price, age, and versatility — Liverpool see the Frimpong package as a unique opportunity on the market."

Reds chase Xavi Simons as Wirtz alternative

Liverpool seem to have given up on signing Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen but are progressing in a deal that could see Xavi Simons arrive from RB Leipzig.

Arne Slot is seeking to add more flair to his attacking midfield options and has turned to his compatriot, whose departure from the Bundesliga side has been confirmed.

TBR Football’s Graham Bailey says: “In the background Liverpool did do a lot of checks on Frimpong over the last few months, and interestingly they’ve done similar investigations on Xavi Simons.

“I keep coming back to Simons, they like him an awful lot and they’ve done the work on him, obviously speaking to Ryan Gravenberch.

“I’ve been told not to rule out the prospect that Liverpool’s hierarchy will have spoken to Jurgen Klopp about Simons, which I think is interesting.”

Liverpool fight Chelsea for Sesko

Liverpool are also said to be interested in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and are ready to face off against Chelsea for the young forward, Fichajes reports.

The Bundesliga club want €84m for the striker, who continues to be the subject of Arsenal transfer rumours.

This lofty asking price means there is no certainty whether the Premier League duo will follow up on their interest, particularly with Liverpool set to invest heavily elsewhere in Slot’s squad.

Mamardashvili says Valencia goodbye ahead of Liverpool move

Incoming Liverpool goalkeeper Gio Mamardashvili has said his goodbye to Valencia ahead of his big summer move to the Premier League, which was made official last August.

Having become a cult hero at the Mestalla, he wrote on Instagram: “I don't know if I was the best, but I always gave my all. Today is a very special and emotional day. It marks the end of a period that began four years ago. I arrived as a young boy, not knowing Spanish, but with a big dream. During this time, I've experienced difficult days of growth and also unforgettable moments.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me during these four years. I think I've left a small legacy in Valencia. And I hope this club always remains where it deserves to be: among the elite.”
