Robert Lewandowski is considering his options at FC Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 37-year-old’s career is in its twilight, but continuing his time at one of the world’s biggest clubs is a possibility.

Lewandowski’s 16 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions is his lowest goals-per-appearance ratio since his first season at Borussia Dortmund, in 2010/11. His longevity has been impressive, but the physical side of things appears to be starting to weigh on him as he has started in just 12 of his 24 La Liga appearances this season.

The Poland international has a number of suitors, some of which would lead to a massive payday before he calls time on his illustrious career.

What are Lewandowski’s options?

MLS sides, as well as other unnamed clubs, are considering signing Lewandowski. He is also thinking about signing a short-term extension to stay with Barcelona.

Saudi Arabia could be another possibility if he wants to maximize his income.

The MLS route would see him follow in the footsteps for former teammates Thomas Muller and Lionel Messi, who have joined the Vancouver Whitecaps and Inter Miami, respectively, in recent seasons.

The American league’s comparatively wide-open defences could see Lewandowski continue to score at a high rate, while not having to put in the effort that is required of him in Spain and in the Champions League.

It is likely that other European sides will try to sign him, too. He has proven his ability to make an impact in limited minutes this season, as he scored a brace in 66 minutes against Newcastle in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. He also scored a brace against Valencia in 22 minutes off the bench in September.

Lewandowski has played the full 90 minutes seven times this season, and he scored a hat trick while doing so against Celta Vigo in December.
