'Of course': Rashford confirms Man Utd return chances ahead of Barcelona transfer plan
Marcus Rashford has opened up over staying at Barcelona for the long-term, with the Manchester United loanee looking to find a permanent home next summer.
Rashford has been told by Ruben Amorim that he has no future at Old Trafford, which led to the 28-year-old moving to Barca on loan with an option to buy set at around €30 million.
Barca are believed to be keen on signing Rashford after an impressive start to life in Catalonia and the feeling is mutual with the player also re-iterating his desire to permanently stay with the club.
“Of course, what I want is to stay at Barça,” Rashford told SPORT. “It's the ultimate goal, but it's not the reason I'm training hard and giving my all. The purpose is to win. Barça is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles.
“There is pressure here, but it's not negative pressure; it's the kind you crave as a player, the kind I want and have always wanted as a footballer.
“I can't be in a place where there aren't high expectations; for me, it's harder to stay motivated and give my best at a club where the demands aren't at their peak. I'm in the perfect place and environment to continue my journey as a footballer, so I'm just trying to give my best every day and help the team win. We'll see what happens next summer.”
Barca set to hold leverage over Man Utd in Rashford transfer talks
Rashford has been a positive figure for Barcelona this season with 14 goal contributions across all competitions, having regularly filled in for the injured Raphinha in attack.
Barca are understood to be willing to sign Rashford permanently but they may require the England international to lower his wage demands.
United may also be forced to consider a smaller offer than the buyout fee for Rashford, with the player insisting he would only leave for Barca and giving the La Liga giants leverage in any negotiations.
The Red Devils are desperate to get Rashford’s wages off their books permanently and secure pure profit through his sale, with the forward having no chance of getting back into Amorim’s first team.
