Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid HEATS UP as Alonso demands signing
Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso is reportedly pressuring Florentino Perez to complete the signing of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez in 2026.
The 43-year-old wanted to sign a new central midfielder following his appointment as Los Blancos’ new head coach in late May, however a deal failed to materialise over the summer, despite the departure of club legend Luka Modric on a free transfer.
Alonso remains eager to bolster his first-team squad with at least one reinforcement in the middle of the park, and widespread reports indicate that Fernandez is currently his dream target.
That has been backed up by Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim that Real Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of the Chelsea star amid Alonso’s desire to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The ex-Bayer Leverkusen boss is reportedly “pressuring” Real Madrid to sign Fernandez next year as he believes the Argentina international is the “ideal candidate” to improve Los Blancos’ midfield.
However, the 24-year-old’s current contract at Chelsea isn’t due to expire until 2032 and he now appears settled in west London after rumours of an exit during the 2023-24 season.
Furthermore, reports have claimed that Real Madrid would be required to pay at least €138 million (£120m) to sign Fernandez next summer and they currently don’t have the financial power to afford such a deal.
As a result, a transfer appears increasingly unlikely unless Fernandez pushes to leave Chelsea.
Real Madrid transfer news
Real Madrid are also interested in signing fellow Premier League superstar Erling Haaland next year and they have earmarked the Norway striker as their dream replacement for Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a blockbuster move to Saudi Arabia and rumours suggest that Al-Ahli could submit a world record transfer offer to acquire his services in 2026.
If Real Madrid are able to negotiate a sale, they are expected to pursue a move for Haaland. However, his contract at Manchester City runs until 2034 after he signed a lucrative new deal in January.
Adam Wharton, Marc Guehi, Desire Doue and Ibrahima Konate have also been linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks.
