Serhou Guirassy's well-known Borussia Dortmund release clause, which allows him to sign for a select few elite teams, will be reduced next summer, according to German media.

The Guinea international joined the Bundesliga giants in the summer of 2024 and enjoyed a spectacular first season at Dortmund. Guirassy scored a whopping 38 goals in 50 games, which saw him rank 21st in the recent Ballon d'Or top 30.

He carried his form over into this season, netting four goals in his first three Bundesliga matches, but his output has dried up in recent games. Nevertheless, he is one of the Bundesliga's hottest commodities, not least because of his unique, variable release clause.

In the summer, Guirassy could have left Dortmund for one of a handful of elite sides, with the value of the clause varying depending on the club trying to buy the striker. Some top English and Spanish teams could have signed him for €60 million, others would have had to pay €75m.

According to Sky Germany, Guirassy's clause will again be active next summer, and it will actually be cheaper in 2026 than this year, which is sure to put at least some clubs on red alert.

Guirassy a bargain in 2026

The German publication has not disclosed the exact value of Guirassy's clause for 2026, but it is likely to be a fairly affordable fee for a striker of his quality.

The report adds that the clause will again apply to just a few clubs, so other potential suitors, such as Saudi teams, will have to formally negotiate with Dortmund, allowing the Bundesliga outfit to demand a premium.

Barcelona are explicitly mentioned as having Guirassy on their shortlist for future windows. The Catalans are looking for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Last month, the 29-year-old was linked with a €100m to Barcelona, which seemed bizarre given his clause, but the admiration of the Blaugrana appears to be genuine.

Guirassy, too, looks to be keen on a move as he has reportedly instructed his brother and agent to sound out potential suitors. He is aware that due to his age, his next transfer is likely to be the final big deal of his career.
