Yamal threatens to QUIT Barcelona as PSG prepare world record bid
Lamine Yamal is unhappy with the public criticism of Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, with PSG considering a world record bid for the unsettled wonderkid.
Defensa Central reports that the teenage phenomenon is upset and angry after Flick publicly singled out Yamal for his lack of defending and not helping the team.
The report states that so annoyed is Yamal that he may even consider his future at the Blaugrana.
The 18-year-old feels the criticism is unwarranted and unfair and he is now considering his options.
What did Flick say?
This is not the first time that Yamal's work off the ball has been highlighted but the comments that really irked Yamal were before the Barcelona versus PSG Champions League game.
Flick commented ahead of the match that while Yamal is a super talent, he needs to be more of a team player and help with defending in order to raise his level.
“Super, super, super… that’s not something I like,” Flick said.
“He has talent, but to climb one or two more levels he needs to work hard.
"It’s not just about playing with the ball, it’s also about defending. That’s what we need from everyone, not just him.”
PSG are considering making a world record move for Yamal.
The current world transfer record is PSG's €222 million signing of Neymar from Barcelona in 2017.
It would take at least such an offer to even have a hope of prising Yamal away.
The attacker has a contract until 2031 so Barcelona are well protected.
Premier League giants and Real Madrid are also said to be watching on keenly.
Yamal has emerged over the past 18 months as one of the best young talents world football has ever seen.
At the age of just 16 he played a pivotal role in Spain winning Euro 2024, while he was phenomenal last season in Barcelona's La Liga triumph and run to semi-finals of the Champions League.
His performances saw him finish runner-up in the 2025 Ballon d'Or ranking.
