CONFIRMED: Nico Williams reaches transfer agreement

Barcelona have reportedly reached a pre-agreement with Athletic Club winger Nico Williams as they edge closer to finalising the summer arrival of the Spain international.
Williams, 22, rejected the chance to secure a Camp Nou switch last year, however he has now accepted a six-year contract proposal from the Blaugrana and the deal is close to being completed.
That is according to Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna, who claims that Williams will earn a gross annual salary of €12 million at Barcelona.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been heavily linked with a move for the Athletic Club superstar over the past 12 months, but they recently cooled their interest in his signature after being informed of his desire to join Barcelona.
Bayern Munich have also been monitoring Williams’ situation, following their failure to agree a deal for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, however they are set to miss out on his signature too and will be forced to pursue alternative targets.
Nico Williams to join Barcelona
Barcelona have ramped up their pursuit of Williams in recent weeks and a deal is close to being formally completed following productive talks with his representatives.
Hansi Flick’s side are set to trigger the €58 million release clause included in Williams’ current contract at Athletic Club and he will become their ninth-most expensive signing of all time, behind the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

He will bolster a forward line that already contains Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, with the latter potentially set to be deployed in an attacking midfield role next season in order to accommodate Williams.
The Spain international has scored 31 goals and provided 30 assists in 167 first-team appearances for Athletic Club, however he is now on the verge of leaving the Basque outfit after a 12-year association with the club.
