Xabi Alonso at risk of SACK amidst Real Madrid player REVOLT
Xabi Alonso is at risk of the sack at Real Madrid amidst a player revolt.
Respected journalist Jorge Picon reports that Alonso's position at the Santiago Bernabeu is starting to become untenable.
Picon claims there are several players who are part of a dressing room revolt against the Spanish coach.
These players want Alonso to be sacked - and there are important people at board and management level who are starting to recognise that they may be forced into dismissing the former Bayer Leverkusen manager.
Xabi Alonso to be sacked?
Alonso has come under scrutiny in recent days both for reasons on and off the pitch.
On the pitch, Madrid have gone on a three-game winless run. They lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League before back to back draws with Rayo Vallecano and Elche in La Liga. This has allowed Barcelona to close the gap at the top of the table to one point.
But off the pitch, Alonso has reportedly found it difficult to gel with certain top-level players - namely Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe.
Vini Jr is unhappy at not playing enough minutes under Alonso and a bombshell report from The Athletic this week states that Vinicius has directly told Los Blancos president Florentino Perez that signing a new deal is not the best option for him.
Vini Jr's current contract expires in 2027.
During Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clasico in late October, Vinicius and Alonso had a public bust-up after his substitution in the second-half.
As per The Athletic, Vinicius has concerns over Alonso’s position as Real Madrid boss and “tensions have only grown” since the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
The Brazil superstar was notably included on the substitutes bench for Real Madrid’s first Champions League fixture of the campaign versus Marseille in September and his relationship with Alonso has become a major issue at the Bernabeu.
Vini reportedly believes that Alonso isn’t treating him fairly and he is now unwilling to sign a new deal, especially as Real Madrid are yet to accept his request to earn an annual salary of €30 million.
In addition to Vini Jr, there have been reports that Mbappe is also not happy with Alonso.
El Nacional reports that Mbappe is one of the several players who has lost faith in Alonso, while a large section of the Madrid fanbase are also unhappy with the coach.
It hasn't been the smoothest of rides for the former Madrid midfielder, who created history at his last job Bayer Leverkusen. With the German side he led Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic season in 2023-24, winning the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. He also lost the final of the Europa League to Atalanta, the only defeat in any competition that season.
He took over Real Madrid this summer, replacing Carlo Ancelotti.
