Chelsea have reportedly beaten Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Watford to the signing of Guinea youngster Amara Keita on a trial basis.

The Blues have established themselves as the market-leaders when it comes to signing talented teenagers over the past few years and Keita is the latest wonderkid to arrive at their Cobham training facility.

That is according to a report from AfricaFoot, who claim that Keita officially joined Chelsea on trial on 20 November. He was viewed as a “top priority” by the west London giants and they fought off significant competition from across England to secure a short-term deal for the young winger.

It’s reported that Chelsea were “particularly impressed” by Keita’s performances at the World Schools Cup in China and they have moved quickly to sign him on a trial period.

Enzo Maresca’s side were reportedly locked in negotiations over a deal for several months and he will spend more than two weeks at Chelsea.

Keita is already training with Chelsea’s U15 side following his arrival, while he could subsequently enjoy trials at Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Watford, all of whom remain interested in a transfer.

Serie A outfit Udinese are also keeping tabs on Keita’s development, as per AfricaFoot, and his camp are set to travel to Italy to view the club’s facilities following his trial at Chelsea.

A source close to Keita told AfricaFoot: “We were primarily convinced by Chelsea's project, one of the biggest clubs in England…

“This is a real opportunity and a great source of satisfaction for us.”

Chelsea target Amara Keita

If Keita is signed on a permanent deal following his trial period at Chelsea, he would become the latest in a long line of teenagers to join the club since Clearlake Capital and BlueCo arrived as their new owners in 2022.

The Blues have spent a total of €483.6 million on players aged 19 or younger under BlueCo, with the club eager to build a first-team squad capable of challenging for major honours over the next decade.

Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League table, six points behind league leaders Arsenal, while they won the inaugural summer Club World Cup in July.
