Kylian Mbappe remains Real Madrid’s priority signing in 2024, with Los Blancos expected to attack the PSG forward in a matter of weeks.

Mbappe remains destined to become a free agent next year as his contract with the Ligue 1 champions expires in June, and from 1 January he will be at liberty to conduct transfer talks with foreign clubs.

It is affirmed by Relevo that Real Madrid still see the 24-year-old France international as their absolute priority transfer target.

Beyond Mbappe, there is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, but at the start of the year, all eyes will be on the Parisian, who has been given two weeks to commit himself to Real Madrid, else they will turn towards other targets.

Mbappe deal driven by Champions League success

The deal is set to be fuelled by Real Madrid’s Champions League success so far this season, which has yielded them €42 million in prize money.

While €15.6m of that figure was guaranteed by their qualification, €16.8m has been chipped in thanks to their six wins, while a further €9.6m has been achieved by qualifying for the last 16.

All of this, of course, will help fund the Mbappe deal, which will not come cheap, despite the player arriving on a ‘free’ transfer.

The forward is likely to become the highest-paid player at the club, while he will also demand significant signing-on bonuses should he join Los Blancos. These are likely to total as much as a sizeable transfer fee, with Mbappe’s loyalty bonus alone at PSG worth €60 million this season.

Nevertheless, he is seen as an important figure to keep away from the Premier League in order to maintain Real Madrid’s reputation as being a destination for elite players.

Real Madrid also have an eye on Davies, who has yet to agree a new contract with Bayern Munich and whose current deal expires in 2025.

He is seen as another potential summer signing, with his value set to drop as the end of the season approaches simply due to the uncertainty over his future. This is something that Real Madrid will look to profit from if they can.
