Barcelona have scheduled a key telephone meeting with Paris Saint-Germain today regarding the possibility of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer.

Mbappe, 24, is set to be sold by the Parisians during the current transfer window after he refused to sign a contract extension at the club.

PSG president Naser Al Khelaifi is reportedly doing all he can to convince Mbappe to leave this summer, although the France international has previously expressed his desire to stay at the club for the 2023/24 season.

But, PSG don’t want to lose the forward on a free transfer next summer, which has alerted some of the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid have naturally been linked with a move, given their previous interest in Mbappe, but Los Blancos are not one of the six clubs to express their desire to sign the France star to PSG.

The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter Milan have approached PSG, as have Tottenham Hotspur, although Mbappe is said to be “completely uninterested” in moving to the north London club.

Al-Hilal have also thrown their name into the hat with a world-record €300 million offer to PSG and a €700m annual salary presented to Mbappe. Furthermore, they will allow him to join Real Madrid in 2024 on a free transfer.

Barcelona want Mbappe

Barcelona aren’t giving up on their hope of signing Mbappe, however, and have scheduled a phone call with PSG representatives today (Monday 24 July) to discuss a possible move, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication also state that Barca are set to offer PSG a number of players in exchange for Mbappe as they don’t have the funds required to purchase him outright.

Barcelona have signed Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu this summer, with the latter’s €5m fee the only money spent by the club on transfers so far this window.

Mbappe scored 41 goals in all competitions last season, while also contributing 10 assists.
