Casemiro has responded to Toni Kroos after the German revealed his confusion over the Brazilian's summer move from Real Madrid to Manchester United.

Casemiro, 30, joined the Red Devils in a deal worth €70 million during the summer transfer window, leaving Real Madrid just months after winning the Champions League for a fourth time with Los Blancos.

Leaving the Santiago Bernabeu outfit for a Europa League side came as a slight surprise, despite Real Madrid signing Aurelien Tchouameni to add depth and quality to their central midfield.

Tchouameni has seamlessly slotted into Casemiro's previous role at the Spanish giants, while the Brazilian has been superb since joining Man Utd.

After losing out on Frenkie de Jong, despite pursuing him for the entire summer, Man Utd settled on Casemiro, who has provided quality alongside Christian Eriksen in Erik ten Hag's system.

However, his decision to leave Real Madrid was one that was questioned by former team-mate Toni Kroos. The former Bayern Munich star questioned Casemiro's intentions in leaving the European champions to join a Man Utd team who languished down in sixth place in the 2021/22 Premier League season, pointing towards money as a great reason why Casemiro ended up leaving Real Madrid for Old Trafford.

Casemiro has now hit back at his former team-mate, in comments to Man Utd's club website.

What has Casemiro said?

Casemiro told the official Man Utd website that the idea of a new challenge was one that enticed him: "I think that the great standing this club has in the game and its great history are definitely the most important reasons to be here. It’s also a fresh set of goals in a brand-new league for me.

"So that presents a really big and exciting challenge for me and I’m working really hard to achieve them alongside my teammates."

He added: "Well at the end of the day, when you go to a club you always want to pick up as many victories and trophies as you possibly can but I’m the kind of person who takes things match by match."
