Real Madrid have reportedly begun their search for Daniel Caravjal's successor and have identified one name as a possible summer signing.

Carvajal, 30, remains Los Blancos' first-choice right-back, but injury problems over the past few years have seen Lucas Vazquez deputise in the backline in place of the Spaniard.

As a result, Real Madrid have started to look on the continent in an attempt to sign a long-term replacement for the 30-year-old.

Chelsea's Reece James was considered to be their first-choice option as a right-back signing in 2023, but the England international recently extended his contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028, meaning a transfer away isn't at all likely and would cost a bucket-load.

Therefore, Carlo Ancelotti's side have been forced to look for alternatives, and according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, former Celtic and current Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has caught their eye.

Why do Real Madrid want Frimpong?

The 21-year-old, who has four caps for the Dutch Under-21 side, joined Leverkusen in January 2021 and has seen impressed in the German top flight.

The Manchester City academy graduate, who left Pep Guardiola's side to sign for Celtic in 2019, has become of consideration to Real Madrid in recent times, with his form for Leverkusen capturing the attention of Los Blancos scouts.

Despite Leverkusen suffering a disappointing start to the campaign with just two league wins in 10 games, Frimpong has been one shining light in their season so far.

The Dutchman has netted four Bundesliga goals already this year, far superior to his tally of just one during the 2021/22 campaign, and he's already notched two assists in the Champions League.

As a result, Real Madrid have taken notice and are reportedly considering making a formal approach to Leverkusen in their attempt to sign the full-back.

Frimpong currently has a deal that runs until 2025 at his current club, but with Leverkusen known for selling their prized assets, such as Kai Havertz and Leon Bailey in recent years, there's no reason why Los Blancos couldn't tempt the Bundesliga side into selling Frimpong.
