Lamine Yamal hit with stunning €300m bid as Barcelona face historic decision
Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal has been the subject of a bid that would smash the world transfer record if accepted, according to a stunning report from Spain.
There is an offer worth €300 million on the table for the 18-year-old superstar, Fichajes reports.
This has generated a “palpable sense of unease” at Camp Nou, with fears emerging for the first time that Lamine could depart the club.
A world-record transfer offer for Lamine Yamal
It is claimed that the bid – which would smash the current transfer record of €222m, which saw Neymar leave Barcelona for PSG – has “shaken” the Catalan side.
Given the financial restraints that the Catalan side still face, €300m would represent a game-changing injection of cash, but equally it would force the Blaugrana to part with the player who is expected to become one of the dominant figures over the next decade.
Barcelona’s stance publicly is clear: they will not sell Lamine Yamal. But given the sums now involved, there are doubts as to whether they can maintain this position.
Who is the bid from?
While it’s not been made clear who has put €300m forward to sign the teenager, there are only a handful of clubs in the world capable of making such deals.
The most cash-rich clubs in Europe are Manchester City and PSG, yet spending regulations mean that it is unlikely that either would launch such an offer.
Instead, the Saudi Pro League is most likely to make a transfer of such a magnitude. Multiple reports indicate that the Saudis are plotting an enormous summer transfer window that will focus on younger up-and-coming stars like Lamine Yamal.
Why Barcelona are afraid Lamine might leave
Lamine Yamal’s relationship with head coach Hansi Flick and teammate Raphinha could be a factor that drives him out the club, Fichajes claims.
The youngster is said to be jealous that the Brazil international has outperformed him at times, while it is claimed that Flick places more trust in the former Leeds and Rennes attacker.
It is pointed out that there has been no public show of frustration from Lamine, however.
What will Barcelona do?
Despite Barcelona’s issues, the Camp Nou side will surely place the future of Lamine Yamal above everything else.
The upgraded stadium should start to generate further revenue to ease the club’s financial issues, which president Joan Laporta continues to insist are only short-term concerns.
It does not seem worth selling potentially the best player of his generation for a short-term cash injection, particularly given the damage it would do to the status of Barcelona.
Lamine Yamal should, therefore, remain with Barca, regardless of the €300m offer on the table.
