Kylian Mbappe could soon find himself under pressure at Real Madrid, according to Spain U17 coach Hernan Perez, who says the Bernabeu side have a striker of the level of Erling Haaland just waiting to break through.

When Xabi Alonso took charge of Los Blancos earlier this summer, one of the priorities of the former Bayer Leverkusen boss had been to find a solution to help Mbappe at centre-forward.

Endrick was signed for €47.5 million last summer but failed to sparkle as expected last term, and the Brazilian teenager could soon find himself demoted thanks to the outstanding performances of Gonzalo Garcia.

The 21-year-old has been one of the revelations of the Club World Cup, having taken advantage of Mbappe’s illness to announce himself on the biggest stage.

Gonzalo scored against Al-Hilal in the opening game of the tournament before grabbing an assist against Puchuca and then netting once more against Red Bull Salzburg.

This came after a spectacular season for Real Madrid B in which he scored 25 goals in 36 league matches.

He has pushed himself into firm contention for a place in Alonso’s thoughts, but this comes as little surprise to Spain’s U17 boss Perez.

Gonzalo Garcia: A striker going right to the top

Speaking to AS, he gave the teenager a glowing reference, even likening him to Manchester City’s prolific hitman.

“He’s going to reach a very high level,” Hernan Perez said. “The more demanding and the better the coaches are, the more he will progress.

“I think he’ll be Real Madrid’s striker for the next 10 or 12 years. I know the level that’s demanded at Real Madrid, but I don’t think Gonzalo is very far from Haaland if they give him playing time and importance.

“If Real Madrid believes in him, he will go very far.”

The good news for Gonzalo Garcia is that Alonso has shown a willingness to put his faith in bright young talents. After getting only a handful of minutes under Carlo Ancelotti, it appears his career is now ready for liftoff.
