Real Madrid have had their sights set on a transfer for Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, but could be troubled yet again by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish and French champions have already made headlines in the transfer window over the future of Kylian Mbappe, and they could be locked in again in the race for the French midfielder.

It was widely believed that Mbappe would run down his PSG contract and sign for Real Madrid, but a late U-turn changed matters, and Mbappe ended up staying with the Ligue 1 side.

Could PSG hijack a transfer for Aurelien Tchouameni?

Since then, Real Madrid have shifted focus to other targets, hoping to build a squad capable of sustaining their Spanish dominance and challenging in Europe, and Tchouameni is a major target.

The La Liga winners are keen to improve in various positions, and midfield is one of them, as they aim to build a long-term partnership, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching their final years in the game.

Real Madrid have faced competition for the signing of Tchouameni, with clubs across Spain and England keen to sign the midfielder, but now, PSG are their biggest competitors.

Last week, it was thought that a deal between Real Madrid and Tchouameni was close, but since the renewal of Mbappe and likely arrival of Sporting Director Luis Campos at PSG, the French side think they have a good chance.

There is also the issue of paying the fee required – Monaco are believed to want €80 million, but Real Madrid are hoping to get a deal done by paying around €60 million for the player, inviting interest from elsewhere.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been given a free reign of who he wants to play for, as Monaco have only demanded that their asking price be met if they want to sign the player.

This summer could mark the start of a transfer rivalry between Real Madrid and PSG – the situation over Mbappe already created difficult relations between the two, and Tchouameni’s future could amplify that.
