Karim Benzema has been nothing short of a modern legend at Real Madrid since he joined the club from Olympique Lyon in 2009.

In that time the French striker has gone on to score 295 goals and bag a further 152 assists in 577 games for the Spanish giants. Add to that no less than nine major trophies and it’s clear to see that Benzema has been one of Madrid’s most successful players ever.

However, the striker’s time in Spain may slowly but surely be drawing to a close if reports in Spain are anything to go by.

According to El Nacional, Manchester City are extremely keen on tempting Benzema away from Madrid next summer. And for a number of reasons, they may find it easier than first thought.

Man City offers him a new challenge

Benzema has unquestionably been one of the best European strikers of his generation and as such the French goal scorer has one a number of trophies and awards in French and Spanish football.

However, even if Madrid are capable of challenging for major trophies next season, Benzema may wish to take a stab at another league before he finally decides to hang up his boots for good.

As such, Man City would be able to offer the striker the comfort and challenge of competing at the very highest level in England, where he can not only prove himself in a new country but also take a stab at adding new pieces of silverware to his already bulging trophy cabinet.

He may get pushed out of Madrid

While it may be hard to imagine at this moment in time, as Benzema is leading Madrid’s front line and goalscoring charts, there is a strong possibility that the French forward may be looking elsewhere for game time next season.

The Spanish club are expected to complete the signing of Kylian Mbappe next season, which would be problematic enough for Benzema, considering both players play in the same position.

However, Madrid are also hot favourites to land Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund too, which would undoubtedly make Benzema’s place at the club untenable very quickly.
