Who is Yunus Musah? Ex-Arsenal youth starring with Valencia and the USA

There are plenty of young American players currently making a name for themselves in Europe, including Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah.

Christian Pulisic is at Chelsea, Timothy Weah is at Lille, while Weston McKennie is with Italian giants Juventus.

Musah is yet to reach the level of that trio yet due to his age, but the signs are very promising.

The young midfielder was previously at Arsenal in his youth days and could have represented England an international level before choosing the United States.

Musah plays as a central midfielder, though can also play to the right as a wide midfielder.

How good is Yunus Musah?

A good indication of how good Musah is can be found in his international career.

Born to Ghanaian parents in New York City, he has also lived for periods in Italy and England.

Ghana, the USA, Italy and England were all keen for Musah to represent them at international level.

He would feature over 30 times for England at youth level while at the Arsenal academy, but would eventually make the decision to jump ship to the United States after they called up to senior level first.

After being with Arsenal, Musah made to move to Valencia in 2019, initially joining the B side at the Mestalla.

In September of 2020, he became the first Englishman and first American to ever play for Valencia when he started league fixture versus Levante.

He is also the youngest non-Spanish player ever to score for Los Che.

Musah's best attribute is probably his athleticism as he is big, fit and strong.

He also holds a lovely command over the ball, though, and is extremely adept at taking possession up the pitch.

His determination and aggression would make him ideal for a high-pressing side.

Following his debut for Valencia, he would outline his own skills, saying:

"I want to score more goals and be more consistent with my passes. Sometimes in the game I can do so many good passes and one bad one. I want to correct that.

"I can run past players because I'm a bit bigger than some of them. I'm really good at passing and I can create a lot of chances."

What clubs are interested in Yunus Musah?

Musah has been linked with a return to Arsenal but that seems unlikely after his previous exit, while Barcelona and Real Madrid have been credited with a cursor interest.

At the moment, it seems like his immediate future lies with Valencia.
