Bayern Munich are ready to pay €100 million in order to buy Barcelona centre back Ronald Araujo.

That is according to Cadena SER, who report on Wednesday that Bayern have informed Barcelona that they are ready to pay the three-figure sum for the Uruguayan.

Bayern are in the market for a centre back this January and have made a number of approaches to different players.

The most recent was Genoa star Radu Dragusin, with Bayern involved in a tug of war with Tottenham for the Romania centre back’s signing.

However, it appears as if Spurs have won the race to sign the former Juventus centre back.

As a result, Cadena SER say that Bayern have turned their attentions to Araujo, who is considered one of the best in his position in La Liga.

Araujo buyout clause

Araujo has a contract at Barcelona until 2026, with a buyout clause inserted into his deal worth a staggering €1 billion.

The 24-year-old Uruguay international has established himself as a regular at Camp Nou, featuring on 131 occasions for the first team since arriving from Boston River in 2020.

However, he has also been hit by a number of injuries during his time at Barca.

As a result, Barcelona could consider a sale if a huge offer were to arrive for the defender.

Araujo has won one La Liga, one Copa del Rey and one Supercopa de Espana during his time at Barcelona.

He has been capped 16 times by the Uruguay national team and he travelled to the 2022 World Cup but did not play due to injury.

FootballTransfers understands that a bid of such a high amount from Bayern for Araujo is very unlikely.

However, the signing of a defender this month remains a priority.

Raphael Varane, Nordi Mukiele, Eric Dier and Trevoh Chalobah have all been linked to Bayern this month.

Former player Jerome Boateng has been training with the club but it is unlikely he will sign a contract to play.
