Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke believes Jadon Sancho’s return to form is down to the young player forgetting about Manchester United’s attempts to sign him last year.

The Premier League giants spent much of the summer trying to sign the 20-year-old talent but were thwarted by Dortmund’s reluctance to budge on their price for the player and a deadline imposed by the German club.

As such, Sancho remained a Bundesliga star after the summer transfer window and began the season with a notable dip in form.

However, Sancho has been in fantastic form since the turn of the year with no less than six goals and six assists in Dortmund’s last 11 games in all competitions.

Indeed, Sancho was on hand to provide an assist for Dortmund’s second goal in last week’s 3-2 win over Sevilla in the Champions League, as well as a goal and assist in Saturday’s 3-0 derby win over Schalke.

As such, Sancho has delighted Dortmund fans with what many believe to be a true return to form.

And the man who signs his paychecks at the end of every month believes it’s down to Sancho forgetting all about Man United.

“He already played a sensational game in Sevilla and set up Erling with an outstanding chip ball,” Watzke told Sport1. “Against Schalke, he underlined his current form with a goal and an assist.”

“Jadon is doing really well at the moment, he’s back. But that was only a matter of time. All the transfer talk in the summer has already been forgotten.

“Edin [Terzic] talked to him a lot. Jadon has shown again in the last few weeks what incredible quality he is. We are very happy that he is playing for us.”

Whether Sancho will begin to think about his future more as the summer transfer window approaches remains to be seen but for now he’s back to playing his best football for Dortmund.
