Former Arsenal scouting chief Mislintat extends Stuttgart contract

Former Arsenal head of scouting Sven Mislintat has extended his contract with VFB Stuttgart.

The German has served as the Bundesliga club’s sporting director since the summer of 2019, impressing club chiefs sufficiently to earn a two-year extension to terms that were originally set to expire in 2021.

With Mislintat at the helm, Stuttgart quickly bounced back from their shock relegation in 2018-19, earning promotion last season and making a strong start to the current top-flight campaign.

They currently sit seventh in the Bundesliga and thrashed title hopefuls Borussia Dortmund 5-1 last weekend.

  • By contrast, Arsenal’s fortunes have gone the opposite way since Mislintat’s departure, which came less than 18 months after he had been appointed.

The former Borussia Dortmund scout had mixed success with the Gunners, bringing in major success story Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang but also playing a part in the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Matteo Guendouzi.

Still, they have continued to struggle since making major changes to their recruitment staff and currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League.
