Real Madrid winger Takefusa Kubo is set to return to the club after a failed spell at Villareal and then go back on loan to Getafe.

The 19-year-old winger joined the Spanish giants in 2019 on a five-year deal and, following a loan spell at Mallorca last season, Kubo was then loaned to Villareal for this current league campaign.

However, the young forward struggled to break into Unai Emery’s side and to date has made just two starts in the Spanish top flight since making the move in the summer.

Although Kubo was a key part of Villareal’s Europa League side, starting five of their six group stage matches, he managed just 688 minutes across no less than 19 league games.

  • According to Spanish newspaper AS, Madrid aren’t too happy about Kubo’s lack of game time and have cancelled his loan to move him to a club that will make better use of his talent.

On Monday Getafe manager Jose Bordalas was asked about the club’s plans for the January transfer window and all but confirmed that the Madrid winger was on his way to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

“The club is working, we will see if there is any incorporation,” Bordalas told the Spanish media.

“Kubo is an option that the club manages and we will see how it ends.”

The Japanese forward is unlikely to be registered with Getafe’s squad in time for the club’s Copa del Rey clash with Cordoba on January 5 but is expected to be in place for the weekend’s league match against Elche on January 10.
