Fabrizio Romano has again announced that Josko Gvardiol’s world record transfer to Leipzig has been agreed.

Romano tweeted on Wednesday that Man City are ironing out final details of the deal with Leipzig for Gvardiol.

He reports that City will pay a €90 million fee, which will make Gvardiol the most expensive centre back of all time.

A medical is planned for Friday, Romano says and the transfer will be signed and official by the end of the week.

This is the second time in recent weeks that Romano has claimed Gvardiol’s transfer to Man City was done.

In July, Romano received a community note on Twitter for falsely reporting that an agreement had been reached between Leipzig and City, and that Gvardiola had undergone a medical.

The Twitter community note explained that this was false news and quoted RB Leipzig's sporting director Max Eberl, who publicly stated that there had been no medical nor were the clubs to agreeing a fee.

Romano, as of August 2, insists that the deal is now set to be completed.

Personal terms are all agreed between Gvardiol and the treble winners.

Leipzig would ideally like to keep Gvardiol, but have always accepted that they won’t be able to keep him if an astronomical bid is received.

Gvardiol has emerged as arguably the most exciting young central defender in Europe over the last year and Pep Guardiola is known to be a huge fan of the player.

Guardiola has made the signing of a new centre back his priority this summer and Gvardiol is top of the wish list.

Man City are not the only top European team interested in the 21-year-old.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with the defender in recent months.

However, only City have come forward with a concrete move.

Gvardiol brilliant in 2022-23

Gvardiol was one of the best defenders at the 2022 World Cup for Croatia, who made it all the way to the semi-finals, finishing third.

Gvardiol also impressed for Leipzig and actually scored for them against Man City in their Champions League last-16 first leg in Germany.

The two teams drew 1-1 before City won the second leg on the way to claiming the title.
