Arsenal are set to bolster their squad this summer having come so close to a first Premier League title since 2004 last season, but a number of players will be cashed in on to make way for the new arrivals.

The Gunners want to bolster their midfield, with the club trying to close deals for both Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, currently of West Ham and Brighton respectively.

They remain interested in Dusan Vlahovic, the Serbia striker who spurned the Gunners for Juventus the winter before last, although they now face competition from Bayern Munich under Thomas Tuchel for his signature.

Some of the existing squad will fetch a pretty penny, while there are others who simply need to move onto pastures new. FootballTransfers looks at the five players most in need of a move away from the Emirates.

Kieran Tierney

Kieran Tierney established himself as a fan favourite after joining Arsenal from Celtic in a £25 million deal in 2019, but he found himself playing second fiddle to Oleksandr Zinchenko last season, after the Ukrainian joined from Manchester City for £32m.

The Scot only started six Premier League games last season, making him perhaps the best left-back in the division not getting his game. Man City and Newcastle are reportedly ready to offer him a way out.

Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka had one of his finest seasons yet for Arsenal, plundering seven goals and assists from midfield having been given greater license to get forward from Christmas on, but he is set to be the biggest casualty of the Rice and Caicedo pursuits.

Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly agreed terms with the Switzerland international on a €15m move, but Bayern are interested as Tuchel looks to find a player that will allow Joshua Kimmich to play further forward.

Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun lit up Ligue 1 on loan at Reims this season, scoring 21 goals for the unfancied Champagne side, but the Arsenal academy graduate may still have to move if he wants regular playing time next season, with a fit-again Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in his way, whether or not they sign Vlahovic.

Marseille and RB Leipzig are among the Champions League clubs who have been linked with a mov for the striker, who recently switched his international allegiance from England to the USA.

Reiss Nelson

Nelson's current contract expires at the end of June.

Another academy graduate who has previously thrived out on loan, Reiss Nelson played his best football at Hoffenheim under Julian Nagelsmann in 2018/19, but has shown glimmers of his ability more recently, including his last-minute winner against Bournemouth in March.

But the winger simply can't find a way past Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and now Leandro Trossard in the wide attacking areas, and with the club reportedly in the market for a fourth wide man - such as Barcelona's Raphinha - he should take the chance to leave on a free this summer.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Like Tierney on the opposite flank, Takehiro Tomiyasu was previously undisputed as Arsenal's first-choice right-back, although it was a more complicated defensive shuffle which saw him lose his place, with William Saliba finally given his chance at centre-back and Ben White thriving out wide to accommodate the Frenchman.

With Joao Cancelo and Sacha Boey among those linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, it looks like time for Tomiyasu to take his talents elsewhere.
