World Cup winner goes through with crazy tattoo promise after Spain victory

Marc Cucurella has made good on his promise to get a tattoo of Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente should La Roja win the World Cup.

Before the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, the 27-year-old said: “If we win the World Cup, I will tattoo Luis de la Fuente’s face on my body.”

The Spain boss responded by saying Cucurella would need to keep his word should Spain emerge victorious.

“They made a mistake, but they are men of their word, and they will stick to their word. I am not too ugly. They will just need to find a part of their body which not too visible,” he said at the time, laughing to the media.

“If you say something you need to stick to your word.”

Spain would go on to win the World Cup after defeating Argentina 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres in extra time. It was only the second time the nation had won the tournament in their history following the triumph at the 2010 edition of the competition in South Africa.

Cucurella was one of the best players in the tournament and, although it has taken a few weeks, he has indeed got that tattoo.

"Promise kept," he wrote on social media alongside pictures and video of him having the tattoo done.

The design is placed at the back of his left arm.

Cucurella is also famed for his flowing, curly hair which makes him the most recognisable player on the pitch at any given time.

He says that he has kept his hair long every since he was a child so his mother could spot him easily from the sidelines.

In 2024, he told La Voz de Galicia: “My mother let our hair grow so long because she’d get distracted when she took us to play football, and to tell us apart, she recognised us by our hair.

“We played in the youth teams, and I’ve kept it ever since.”

“I’m cutting it little by little, trimming the ends and styling it myself. I’ve always had it like this, and now it also suits my personality, my style, and well, we’ll keep it like this for now.”

It has been quite the summer for the left-back as, in addition to winning the World Cup, he secured a huge €55 million transfer back to Spain with La Liga giants Real Madrid.
