The 22-year-old has been a standout player for the Chicago Fire since breaking into the team in 2020, and he is coming off a career-best season both on a personal and at the team level.

Although the Fire were knocked out by the Philadelphia Union in the first round of the Major League Soccer playoffs, 2025 was their first postseason appearance since 2017 and saw them record their first win since 2009 when they beat Orlando City in the Wild Card game.

Gutierrez scored 11 goals across all competitions this year and notched four assists. He was also part of the US Men's National Team camp in January, earning his first two caps.

However, since then, Gutierrez has continuously been overlooked, even while other players in his position, such as Gio Reyna, have struggled to perform at club level. This has been a source of frustration, and recently culminated in him applying for a Mexican passport.

Gutierrez headed to Liga MX?

According to transfer insider Tom Bogert, Gutierrez could be on his way to Liga MX after getting his Mexican ID, with at least two domestic giants currently chasing the 22-year-old.

Bogert reports that Club America and Monterrey are showing a 'serious' interest in Gutierrez. No offers have been made yet, but the journalist believes that it is only a matter of time until the first bids arrive.

Chivas also hold a historic interest in the midfielder, having made a sizeable offer for him last year, which was rejected by the Fire. The Guadalajara side only fields players with a Mexican passport and already boasts several dual nationals.

Gutierrez now counts as a domestic player in Liga MX and could also apply to FIFA for a one-time switch to become eligible for El Tri, making him very attractive to Mexican clubs.
