The World Cup and Champions League winner has had a transformative impact on the Canadian side since joining during the summer, scoring seven goals and recording four assists in just eight appearances so far.

In fact, with Muller is the squad, they have yet to taste defeat and are currently on an 11-match undefeated streak.

It looked certain that points were going to be dropped at the weekend as Whitecaps and Orlando City were locked at 1-1 heading into the dying seconds.

Dagur Thorhallsson opened the scoring for Orlando only for MLS Next Pro call-up Nelson Pierre to equalise in the 81st minute.

Deep into stoppage time in the 97th minute, Muller struck a deflected shot past the Orlando goalkeeper after an assist from club captain Ryan Gauld to make it 2-1.

It helped Whitecaps maintain their spot at the top of the Western Conference which ensures a seeded spot heading into the MLS Play Offs.

Whitecaps head coach Jesper Sorensen praised the impact of the talismanic figure that is Muller, saying the German has a bit of "magic" about him.

“He struck it well, and maybe it’s just a little bit of magic,” Sorensen after the win.

“We're in magic land, so it was a little bit from the magic kingdom.

“What he’s shown since he’s come here, with the way he presents himself, with the quality he adds to the team, with how much he’s involved in what chances we create… in the build up and also in the pressing, I think he’s been even more than we could even have hoped for when he came.

“He has had a very fast, very strong impression, and it will also add to his teammates, because they also have a strong belief that we can do something like this.”

Muller is the most successful German player ever

Muller is a legendary figure at Germany's most famous club and won no less than 13 Bundesliga titles as well as two Champion League triumphs and a flurry of other trophies as well during his time at the club.

On a personal level, he is the top German goalscorer and assist-maker in the Champions League.

In 2014, he helped his country win the World Cup.

In October of 2025, he officially became the most successful German football in history when he lifted the 35th trophy of his career, with this one being the Canadian Championship with Vancouver Whitecaps.

After an illustrious career with Bayern, Muller left the club in the summer of 2025 to head to Major League Soccer and he's naturally been an instant hit.

On Thursday, 2 October, Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Vancouver FC 4-2 in the final of the Canadian Championship. Muller got on the scoresheet with a penalty to ensure he overtook the 34 titles held by Toni Kroos as the pair previously shared the status of being Germany's most successful player.
