Thomas Muller isn't thinking about a Bayern Munich return at the moment, but that doesn't mean it won't happen in the future.

The forward is a legendary figure at Germany's most famous club and won no less than 13 Bundesliga titles as well as two Champion League triumphs and a flurry of other trophies as well during his time at the club.

On a personal level, he is the top German goalscorer and assist-maker in the Champions League.

In 2014, he helped his country win the World Cup.

In October of 2025, he officially became the most successful German football in history when he lifted the 35th trophy of his career, with this one being the Canadian Championship with Vancouver Whitecaps.

After an illustrious career with Bayern, Muller left the club in the summer of 2025 to head to Major League Soccer and he's naturally been an instant hit.

On Thursday, 2 October, Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Vancouver FC 4-2 in the final of the Canadian Championship. Muller got on the scoresheet with a penalty to ensure he overtook the 34 titles held by Toni Kroos as the pair previously shared the status of being Germany's most successful player.

Interestingly, Muller said afterwards that it was hard to compare himself to Kroos, who has more Champions League titles, telling Bild:

"I'd rather say: 'Germany's most successful title hoarder.' The question is always: How do you weight these titles? One player wins the national championship more often, while the other has more Champions League victories to his name.

"Statistics are a nice thing, nothing more and nothing less. I don't play football for my 'title legacy,' but because I simply love being on the pitch."

A return to Bayern Munich?

Bayern Munich like to keep things in-house when it comes to management roles in the boardroom as a number of former players have went upstairs as executives over the years.

Legends like Franz Beckenbauer and Uli Hoeness have been club president, while other icons such as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Oliver Kahn have taken up executive roles also.

Muller seems a perfect candidate to return to Bayern in such a role - in fact, it seems almost inevitable.

But, he isn't thinking about that just yet.

When asked by T-Online’s Julian Buhl about a return, he replied: “Bayern will always be my home. But for now, I’m enjoying life in Canada and trying to play successful football here.”
