Is Lionel Messi about to sign a new two-year deal with Inter Miami?

Respected Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has suggested that Lionel Messi will sign a new two-year deal with Inter Miami.

Speculation over Messi's future has been rife over the last few months as his current contract with the Major League Soccer club expires at the end of 2025.

Rumours suggested he could be in line for a romantic return to Barcelona or even boyhood club Newell's Old Boys.

However, it looks like he will extend his stay in the United States.

Balague took to X to address another rumour that Messi will soon play his final competitive home match for Argentina against Venezuela.

Not only will Messi continue with Argentina, but with Inter Miami, too.

"I read and hear that Leo is going to play against Venezuela his last qualifying match with Argentina at home. As he himself says, the logical thing is that it be the last," Balague wrote.

"But… will it be?

"I don't think so. Leo goes day by day. He's about to renew with Inter Miami, possibly for two seasons. Do you really believe that he will stop going to the national team while he plays with Inter? I don't think so.

"I'm convinced that IT WILL NOT BE the last qualifying match with the national team. There will be more."

Balague has followed Messi's career since the beginning and wrote a definitive biography on the multiple-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni faced questions regarding Messi's future ahead of the match against Venezuela on Thursday and in his opinion, the former Barcelona maestro is irreplaceable.

“There can’t be. There won’t be. There won’t be an heir to Messi, for sure,” he told the media.

“There may be great players who mark their era, but what Messi has done over such a long time, I think it will be unrepeatable. Football has many unexpected twists, but in this case, I can almost assure you it will be impossible to see anything like it again. From what I’ve seen, Leo is unmatched.”
