Liverpool receive Alex Scott transfer verdict after €116m interest confirmed

Liverpool have been urged to reevaluate their interest in Bournemouth star Alex Scott following an impressive run of form from Trey Nyoni.

David Ornstein revealed last week that Liverpool are admirers of Scott, who worked under current Reds boss Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth.

Cherries midfielder Scott has developed a reputation as one of the best young midfielders in Europe - a huge feather in the cap of Iraola.

Ornstein, The Athletic’s Football Correspondent, understands it could take a fee of at least €116million (£100m) to prize Scott away from Bournemouth.

However, Liverpool have now been told they could save a significant amount of money by placing their complete trust in academy star Nyoni.

After catching the eye in pre-season, the 19-year-old shone in the 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

And former Liverpool player Conor Coady believes Nyoni could reach the same heights as Scott under the tutelage of Spaniard Iraola.

In quotes carried by the Liverpool Echo, Coady told Sky Sports: “We see someone like a Trey Nyoni, I’m hoping he goes on and has an incredible Liverpool career, because I really rate him that highly. He could become that [next Alex Scott], rather than going out and buy someone, he could become that if he learns and takes on everything that Andoni Iraola is trying to do.”

Nyoni has set a number of records at Liverpool

After joining Liverpool from Leicester City in September 2023, Nyoni made his first-team debut against Southampton in the FA Cup just five months later.

He became the youngest player to ever feature in the competition for the Merseysiders, aged just 16 years and 243 days old at the time.

Nyoni then became the youngest player to appear in European competition for Liverpool against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in November 2025.

Aged 17 years and 213 days old at the time, he surpassed Phil Charnock in the record books as a second-half substitute against the Dutch giants.

Nyoni - who made 14 appearances in total last season - could feature when Liverpool travel to none other than Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

Iraola faces a reunion with Scott at the Vitality Stadium, with Bournemouth in decent form under their new head coach Marco Rose.

They have lost just one of their first five games under Rose, though they have drawn three of them, conceding late goals against Manchester City, Everton and Newcastle United.
