Liverpool finally find Salah replacement as Romano confirms €58m talks

Liverpool have opened talks to sign Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace as Andoni Iraola looks to finally bring in a replacement for Mohamed Salah before the summer transfer window closes next week.

The Reds have only made three senior additions to their squad this summer in Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Roland Araujo, with a true successor to Salah still yet to arrive despite the talismanic forward’s departure in June.

Liverpool are still pushing to seal a deal for Bradley Barcola in the coming days but the Paris Saint-Germain star is more likely to feature on the left flank, leaving a glaring hole on the right where Salah starred.

Yankuba Minteh had emerged as a target for the right wing but Brighton have rejected two bids for the 22-year-old, with Liverpool unwilling to meet their asking price of more than €80 million.

Having also found PSG’s valuation of Ibrahim Mbaye prove restrictive, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are now switching their attention to Sarr, with a proposal of £50m (€58.4m) said to have been submitted to Crystal Palace.

Sarr is understood to be keen on the move, having refused to train for Palace in order to force an exit after multiple bids from Galatasaray were rejected by the Eagles.

Sarr has impressed as a versatile forward for Palace since joining the club from Marseille in 2024, with the 28-year-old netting nine times in the Premier League last season.

Capable of playing all along the frontline, Sarr also scored four times for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup and the winger is keen to make the next step in his career, prompting his decision to go on strike and miss Palace’s first game of the season last weekend.

Palace are understood to be demanding around €60m for Sarr, having previously rejected two bids totalling €40m from Galatasaray, while Al-Hilal are also rumoured to be interested.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool accelerate their talks for Sarr, with plenty of moving parts in their transfer plans before the window closes on 1 September.
