Man Utd develop interest in Real Madrid star - and it is not Aurelien Tchouameni

Manchester United have developed an interest in signing Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to The Guardian.

BBC Sport understands the Red Devils are keen to sign a third midfielder this summer following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

The same publication claims Real star Aurelien Tchouameni remains a top target for Michael Carrick’s side, though he may prove to be too expensive.

The Guardian also claims Tchouameni’s reported price tag - believed to be around €80million (£70m) - may be too costly for United’s budget.

And now the Guardian understands United are running the rule over Tchouameni’s club team-mate, Camavinga, as a cheaper alternative.

The same outlet claims the 23-year-old is valued between €50m and €60m (£46.7m and £58.4m) by La Liga giants Real.

Various sources in Spain, however, understand both Camavinga and Tchouameni would prefer to remain at the Bernabeu this summer.

An alternative report from the Daily Mail claims Chelsea have also contemplated signing Camavinga this summer.

The same publication understands Real would be willing to offload Camavinga should they sign Rodri from Manchester City.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported last Friday that Real were “operating on the basis” that the Spain captain, 30, would join them this summer.

However, the Guardian understands Man City are yet to receive a formal approach from Real over a move for Rodri.

BBC Sport also claims Real are prepared to open fresh talks with United over the future of Tchouameni, should they sign World Cup winner Rodri.

And that is despite the 26-year-old having reportedly agreed to extend his Real contact until 2031 earlier this month.

Camavinga has lifted several honours with Real

Camavinga, meanwhile, is tied to Real until 2029 after putting pen to paper on fresh terms in November 2023.

After emerging through Rennes’ famed youth system, Camavinga left the Ligue 1 side to join Real in August 2021.

He has made 223 appearances for Los Blancos and won 11 trophies including two La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.

Camavinga has also earned 29 caps for France, though he was not included in the 26-man squad which competed at this summer’s World Cup.
