Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: New Ederson update lands, Barcelona craft Alvarez plan
Football transfers specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided updates on several major stories, including the latest on Ederson, Julian Alvarez, Ferran Torres and Azzedine Ounahi.
Ederson heading back to Atalanta after aborted Man Utd move
Ederson has left England and is travelling back to Atalanta after Manchester United pulled the plug on signing the midfielder, according to Romano.
The 27-year-old was on the verge of joining the Red Devils after they agreed a €40.5million (£35m) fee with Serie A side Atalanta in June.
However, Romano has doubled down on his earlier report that United have aborted the signing, though there has been no official confirmation from the clubs.
In a new YouTube video, Romano said: “I can also add to you that Ederson has already left England, and Ederson is ready now to go [on his] holidays and then return to Atalanta.
“So that’s the stance of [the] parties involved, [we are] waiting for Manchester United’s official [confirmation]. I imagine after what [has] happened Manchester United want to take an official position and I respect that.
“But Atalanta and also the player’s camp [have made it] clear [to me] that the deal is not happening any more.
“Also, [the player] is a little bit disappointed because Ederson really had this dream of playing for Manchester United.”
Barcelona weighing up next move in pursuit of Julian Alvarez
The imminent arrival of Karim Adeyemi will not affect Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez this summer, according to Romano.
Romano revealed on Friday that Barcelona are set to sign Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund after both clubs agreed a fee worth up to €30m (£25.5m).
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed at the start of July that the club had an undisclosed offer to sign Alvarez rejected by Atletico Madrid.
“Even signing Karim Adeyemi, who will be in Barcelona [next] Wednesday, is not going to impact the deal for Julian Alvarez,” Romano said.
“They (Barcelona) still want to sign Julian, they will still go all-in for Julian Alvarez. [But] then, Atletico Madrid do not want to sell to Barcelona so the situation remains tense between the two clubs, we will have to see what happens.”
PSG holding talks with Barcelona over signing Ferran Torres
Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with the representatives of Ferran Torres over the possibility of signing the Barcelona striker, according to Romano.
Torres’ future at Barcelona remains up in the air as the 26-year-old has just one year left on his contract.
While Romano understands Torres is yet to decide on his future as he focuses on winning the World Cup with Spain, the forward’s agents are nevertheless holding exploratory talks with PSG over a potential move.
“The agents are talking with Paris Saint-Germain, so there is an active conversation between Ferran Torres and PSG,” Romano said.
“He’s one of the names [on] the list for PSG, [he’s] not the only one. PSG sources guarantee that there are more names on the list.
“And also Ferran Torres is talking to several clubs including Barcelona over [a] new contract before making a decision [on his future].”
Morocco star Ounahi edging closer to joining Dutch giants Ajax
Ajax are pushing to sign Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi from relegated Girona, according to Romano.
Ounahi, 26, caught the eye at this summer’s World Cup with Morocco, scoring twice in their last-16 victory over co-hosts Canada.
And now Romano claims Ajax are keen to trigger a €25m (£21.3m) release clause in Ounahi’s contract following Girona’s relegation from La Liga last season.
“Conversations [are] ongoing, talks [are] ongoing, [both on the] player’s side [and on Ajax's] side, with Girona,” Romano said.
“Michel, the [Ajax] manager, is the same coach he (Ounahi) had at Girona, so that’s the connection. Jordi Cruyff, the [Ajax] technical director, [has] already approved the move.
“Ajax are trying to make something special happen in midfield, and the player they want is Azzedine Ounahi.”
