Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has confirmed that he was the recipient of a bizarre transfer request from Spider-Man actor Tom Holland.

Haaland confirmed his status as football’s premier finisher at the World Cup as he scored seven goals for Norway as they unexpectedly reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

Interest in the striker grew exponentially thanks to his exploits, with his profile on social media exploding.

In a reaction video to some of the memes that emerged over the course of the tournament, Haaland picked out Spider-Man actor Tom Holland’s interview with Jimmy Kimmel as being worthy of attention.

The avid Spurs fan revealed that he had DM’d the prolific scorer to ask him to move to Roberto De Zerbi’s club.

“We need to speak about this as well,” Haaland said as a clip was played in which Holland revealed he had been snubbed by the Man City forward.

Kimmel explained the situation: “He DM'd Erling Haaland and he didn't respond… Erling Haaland had no idea who Tom Haaland was when he DM'd him and asked to hang out. He doesn't watch movies, so he thought that he was a random person.”

Haaland explained: “So his message was 23rd of May, 2021: ‘Heya mate, just saw you're in Monaco. If you want to grab a drink or something, give me a shout and please come join Spurs.’

“God, that's the Spider-Man guy. And I don't watch Spider-Man. And I said it in a funny way, but it got taken out of context. I sounded a bit rude, which I even sent a message because I felt bad. So I just sent the message back to him: ‘There's a story going out that I was ignoring you. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't my intention or whatever. And by the way, not too sure about Spurs at the moment, but who knows in the future?’”

Tom Holland tried to convince Mbappe to join Spurs

This isn’t the first time that Tom Holland has pleaded with a world-leading star to join Tottenham.

Back in 2021, he revealed that he had approached Kylian Mbappe, then of PSG, about the prospect of joining the North London side.

On an interview that circulated on social media, Holland explained: “I actually asked Mbappe… he was really friendly. I said: ‘Mate, you have to come to Tottenham,’ and he just burst out laughing!”

Following Holland’s comment, the clip cuts to him with Mbappe on the red carpet at the Ballon d’Or awards, which was held at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

Mbappe is seen laughing before saying: “Impossible! That’s impossible!”
