Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has reached an agreement in principle on personal terms that will allow him to become Real Madrid’s latest signing in a spectacular summer transfer window, according to a report.

Enzo has been seeking to leave Chelsea for several months, having grown increasingly discontent with the BlueCo project.

The 25-year-old Argentine has taken a sizeable step towards joining Real Madrid by agreeing a contract with the Bernabeu side, according to transfer insider Nicolo Schira. The Spanish are now preparing a “huge bid” to try to force Chelsea into the sale of one of their key assets.

Schira reports on X: “Agreement in principle between Real Madrid and Enzo Fernandez for a contract until 2032. Real Madrid are now ready to submit a huge bid to Chelsea to try to sign the midfielder, who wants to leave Chelsea and is pushing to join Real Madrid.”

Chelsea holding out for €140m

Real Madrid have done the easy part of the transfer. Enzo had dropped numerous hints earlier this year that this is a move that he wants. He notably said earlier this year that he wants to live in Madrid and received a ban from the Premier League club as a consequence.

Although the World Cup winner has publicly made peace with his employers, behind the scenes, the 25-year-old continues to seek to orchestrate a transfer.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs said: “Enzo Fernandez is keen to join Marc Cucurella at Real Madrid, and has made no secret of wanting to leave Chelsea.

“Chelsea's asking price remains £120m (€139m), as revealed last month. Club calm about the situation but will sell at the right price. Real Madrid are currently deciding on the type of midfield profile they want. Mateus Fernandes and Rodri two other names discussed.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has made it clear that he is open to signing a new Galactico and publicly made a €150m approach for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. This will strengthen Chelsea’s belief that they can raise their desired fee for Enzo, which would represent the club’s biggest ever sale.

Real Madrid’s spectacular summer transfer window

Real Madrid have already been extremely active in the transfer market this summer, with the deal that took Cucurella from Chelsea worth an estimated €60 million.

On top of that, they have also confirmed the arrival of Bernardo Silva on a free agent from Manchester City, while Antonio Rudiger has signed a contract extension.

A deal is in the pipeline for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, whose €20m release clause will be triggered, but Los Blancos are eager to make a statement signing like Enzo.

There have also been renewed rumours in Spain that Madrid will chase Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, though financially it will surely be impossible for them to sign both the Frenchman and Enzo Fernandez in the same window.

Nevertheless, new manager Jose Mourinho has made significant progress in assembling a group of experienced and streetwise players, the type he generally loves to work with.
