Deschamps urges Tchouameni to sort out future

France boss Didier Deschamps has urged his players to sort out their futures before the World Cup starts, amid ongoing speculation linking Aurelien Tchouameni with United.

BBC Sport understands the 26-year-old is one of a number of targets being considered by the Red Devils hierarchy as they look to revamp their midfield this summer.

And now Tchouameni, who Real insist is not for sale, has been told to clarify his future before representing France at the World Cup, with manager Deschamps keen for his players to avoid distractions in North America.

In quotes carried by French outlet RMC Sport, Deschamps said of the transfer speculation surrounding several France players: “Obviously the faster the situation is clarified, the better it will be.

“But it applies to everyone. I tell everyone that once the World Cup has started, there will be no need to think about anything else.”

Real Madrid join race to sign West Ham star Fernandes

United have been dealt a blow in their quest to sign Mateus Fernandes as Jose Mourinho has reportedly asked Real Madrid to sign the West Ham United star this summer, according to Spanish publication Diario AS.

The 21-year-old was a shining light in an otherwise torrid 2025-26 season for the Hammers, who suffered relegation to the Championship after finishing 18th in the Premier League.

And now Fernandes, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, has reportedly been shortlisted by Mourinho ahead of his expected arrival at Real, provided club president Florentino Perez wins Sunday’s elections.

United face possible Ederson delay after Brazil call-up

United are facing a possible delay to the completion of a €40.5million (£35m) deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta after the midfielder received a late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad.

The Red Devils are on the cusp of making Ederson their first summer signing, according to BBC Sport, with the club having planned for the 26-year-old to complete a medical with a view to the transfer being completed in early July before pre-season training begins.

However, United have suffered a setback after Brazil announced Ederson has been now drafted into Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man squad for the World Cup - which gets under way on Thursday - following an injury sustained to Roma defender Wesley.

Ederson, who has won three caps for Brazil, will join up with his international team-mates in the United States today ahead of their World Cup opener against Morocco on Saturday.

Tonali boost received as Newcastle identify replacement

United have received a boost in their reported pursuit of Sandro Tonali after learning Newcastle United have identified Udinese midfielder Arthur Atta as a potential replacement, according to The i Paper.

Italy international Tonali is admired by the United board, according to The Athletic, though the 26-year-old’s reported €115m (£100m) asking price currently remains prohibitive.

As speculation continues to swirl regarding the future of Tonali, who has also been linked with Arsenal, The i Paper understands Newcastle are plotting a move for Atta, with the Udinese ace reportedly valued at €30m (£26m).

Red Devils-linked Scott receives glowing endorsement

United have received a glowing reference for reported midfield target Alex Scott, with Bournemouth star Tyler Adams praising his team-mate for taking a “huge step” in his progression last season.

The Athletic have reported that Michael Carrick’s side have made enquiries into the cost of a potential deal for the 22-year-old, who is regarded as one of the Premier League’s best ball-carriers.

And now Scott - who is currently helping England prepare for the World Cup in North America - has been lauded for his recent performances by United States international Adams, who acted as the 22-year-old’s midfield partner last season.

In an interview with talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, Adams said: “Super, super excited [to see Scott training with the England senior team]. He had a great season, I think he took a huge step forward this season.

“We could all see the talent that he had and what he is capable of. You know, he’s been my partner in the midfield for the entire season for the most part and we balance really well next to each other.”
