The Red Devils are expected to back new boss Michael Carrick in the transfer market this summer, after he guided them back into the Champions League, and they are eager to bolster their first-team squad with a number of high-profile additions.

A deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson has already been agreed, while the 13-time Premier League champions are also locked in talks to sign West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes, who could cost as much as €100 million, despite the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship.

Man Utd are also keen to sign a new left winger and a new left-back, amid concerns over their depth in both positions, and they have now entered the race to sign Romero too, as per Argentina journalist Gaston Edul.

It’s reported that Man Utd want to buy Romero this summer and they are reportedly preparing an opening offer for the 28-year-old, who currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €57.7 million.

Romero made 32 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham last season, scoring six goals, but he missed their final six Premier League matches of the campaign due to a knee injury he suffered against Sunderland, while he was also absent for four games in February and March after being shown a red card for serious foul play versus Man Utd at Old Trafford.

Cristian Romero to Man Utd?

It has been reported that Man Utd could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer, despite the fact that Carrick already has Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven at his disposal.

The club are keen to increase the quality of their first-team squad ahead of their 2026-27 Champions League campaign, and Romero has been identified as a possible summer signing.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have already seen two summer bids rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion for Jan Paul van Hecke, with the Dutchman viewed as the ideal replacement for Romero by the Spurs hierarchy.

In addition, they have also finalised an agreement to sign Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi on a Bosman deal.
