Nigerian footballer goes viral with social media transfer pitch to Leicester City
You always need to back yourself if you are going to make it in football and that's exactly what Richard Oluwamayowa is doing.
The Nigerian footballer went viral this past weekend when he made a social media pitch to recently-relegated Leicester City to allow him to take part in a seven-day transfer trial with the club.
The Foxes are coming off a disastrous campaign that saw them relegated down to League One from the English Championship and to rub salt in the wounds, that came exactly a decade after they shocked the world by winning the Premier League in 2015/16.
There will likely be a massive squad overhaul at the club and one man who desperately wants to be recruited is Oluwamayowa.
He posted on X on Sunday:
"Hello @LCFC
"I’m Olaogun, a winger also played as a striker from Nigeria. I’ve spent the last 3 years training daily to get one shot at professional football.
"I’m not asking for a contract. I’m asking for 7 days on trial to show you what I can do. If I’m not good enough, I’ll walk away with no hard feelings.
"I’m fast, direct, and I work harder than anyone on the pitch.
"Thanks, Olaogun"
He also posted a link to his showreel, which you can see above.
Calling himself Olaogun, he was reacting to a post from Leicester in which the club announced:
"We can confirm that 10 Men’s First Team players will depart upon the expiration of their contracts this summer. We would like to thank all those leaving us for their contributions during their time on Filbert Way, and wish them the very best for the future."
Ricardo Pereira, Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew, Jamaal Lascelles, Asmir Begovic and Wayne Marcal are among the players who will leave this summer.
